An autumn escape to beautiful Squamish BC was such a treat for Dustin & Ally’s engagement session. Thanks to Ally living there for a season, these two knew their way around this stunning place. Our first stop? Brohm Lake, which has a lot of significance for these two. I’ll explain:
Ally and Dustin had their first date in a coffee shop. They discovered that they had a lot they could talk about, because the date was 5 hours long! A few days later, Ally showed Dustin Brohm Lake, one of her favourite places. Sparks flew and they continued to talk while looking out onto the beautiful lake. Remembering that day, they both say that that was when they both knew, “This is it!!”
Dustin & Ally have continued to cultivate an encouraging, loving, fun [and goofy] relationship. Ally secretly hoped Dustin would know to propose at Brohm Lake. They went there on their 1-year anniversary (Canada Day), but it was so busy that they went to Whistler instead. Ally said, “Let’s come back on the 28th when it’s less busy.” Little did she know that that was Dustin’s plan all along. He wanted July 1st to be a decoy for the real proposal on the 28th… She laid it out perfectly for him!
On July 28, 2014, Dustin and Ally went to the rock at Brohm Lake where they first talked. Dustin had a video for her to watch on his phone, featuring the kids from their church youth group saying what Ally (and her relationship with Dustin) has meant to them. The video ended with Dustin reaffirming his love for her, and saying, “I should let the guy next to you take it from here, he’s pretty nervous.” And then he asked her to marry him! Come July 2015, it will be official, and I can’t wait to celebrate these two and document their special day!

Hey Sarah,
I go to MRCC and am a friend of the Davisons, I’m sure we’ve seen each other around :)
Anyhow, I’ve been following your photography for a little while now via Janessa and just came upon this session while looking around your blog.
It’s crazy because I lived in Squamish at the time Ally did and we went to the same church. I was around her when we first started hearing the name Dustin as a friend of hers!
Since moving to mission I haven’t seen her (roughly four years). Wow. It was so cool to stumble upon her engagement shoot and have such a weird round about connection. This post makes me so happy. She is truly amazing and I’m sure her and Dustin will be an extrordinary team ;)
Great shoot!
P.S. Just out of curiosity I was wondering where they are living and serving now? Are they around the MR area??
Hi Dania,
Yes I’m sure we’ve run into each other from time to time :)
That’s a cool connection! Dustin & Ally are awesome people, I love working with them! And they’re more than just “friends” now ;)
