James & Liz are getting married in less than a month! These two have known each other for years through church, and finally (~4 years ago) began truly getting to know one another. More on that story when their wedding blog post comes. But first the story of the fake proposal, and then the real proposal.
The fake proposal: James thought it would be funny to have Liz convinced the proposal was going to happen on a different day. He dropped all the hints to make it seem like the proposal was happening on February 12th. They shared a romantic evening, and when James said he had something to ask her (the moment Liz had been waiting for!), it was quickly followed with, “Will you be my valentine?” Eek! Originally I suppose he and his roommate thought it would be super funny. Liz’s opinion? “It was the worst.” Liz was so upset that she couldn’t go to school the next day.
The real proposal: After the fake proposal wasn’t near as funny as James anticipated, he kind of had to let on that he was going to propose on February 16th. It was a Sunday. That day he picked Liz up early in the morning. The day before he had hidden things all around the city in places that were meaningful for the two of them. They went for coffee at their first-date coffee shop, they had cinnamon buns at the beach where they had their first picnic. Then they went to Cyprus & they trudged down the mountain where he had wine glasses, candles, and copies of their emails from when he was in Asia. At Whytecliff Park there were chocolates, pictures of beloved grandparents who had passed away, and a new love letter all waiting for her. The big moment? Shannon Falls. They hiked to the top where it had started snowing, and James got down on one knee. Liz said yes! They celebrated with champagne & snow, and then James had also planned surprise celebrations with family for the rest of the day!
The real proposal was so perfect that Liz forgave James for the 12th & he redeemed himself. And now they are happily engaged, but the real excitement comes with becoming happily married in August!
