Riley & Miranda – Engagement

Riley & Miranda are beautiful – inside & out! Their kindness & genuine appreciation for others is something I’ve been blessed to witness. I can hardly wait to photograph their wedding this coming July.

But seeing as this is their engagement session… A little more about their engagement story – one of my favourites to date!

Riley & Miranda began dating in 3rd year of their undergrad at UBC. A few years later Riley got himself into medical school. As a way to celebrate he went backpacking through Europe by himself during Summer 2013. He was supposed to come home August 8th, or at least that’s what he told Miranda.

On the morning of August 8th, just before heading to the airport to pick Riley up, Miranda’s sister handed her a letter. It was a letter Riley had written before he left for Europe, which read something like, “I’m sorry, I’m not coming home today, but the good news is that you’re coming to London with me.” Miranda’s first thought when she read the letter? “But that means I don’t get to see you today!” Part of her was sad because she’d have to wait another day to see Riley. But it was worth the wait, and she managed to contain her excitement for the plane ride there.

Oh, and a little side note, Riley was incredibly thoughtful in planning this out for Miranda. He took care of EVERYTHING! Her job, her masters program, etc. were all taken care of so she could come to London.

Skip ahead 2 days into their London trip, Riley and Miranda went for a walk in Regent Park, to the top of Primrose Hill overlooking London. And there he asked her to be his wife. And Miranda said yes. The rest of the trip was marked by celebration, looking forward to the new season on the horizon. And the fact that they had mutual friends from school living in London only enriched the celebration. So now the countdown is on; July 11th is going to be a very good day!
