What an amazing first day of September! Mac & Emily’s wedding was extraordinary. I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to be part of it. But truly, I wasn’t the only one who had a hand in making their day possible. Most often when planning a wedding, you hire a caterer, you book a DJ, you rent a reception venue, and their staff do all the set up & take down. Nearly everything at Mac & Emily’s was organized and pulled together by friends and family; I was one of the few actually hired. It was so beautiful to see friends and family showing their love for an amazing couple by helping make their wedding a reality.
Mac & Emily are also friends of mine. Six years ago when I set foot on Anvil Island for the very first time, Emily was my camp counsellor that week. Over the years I’ve been blown away by Emily’s wisdom and her honesty. While photographing her and her bridesmaids, I had a moment. I put my camera down and said, “I need to stop and say what a privilege this is. I always get to photograph beautiful people for my job. But it’s less often that I get to photograph friends that I know well enough to say that they’re just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside.” I meant it, what a privilege.
As a photographer, I suppose I have to thank pinterest sometimes, for giving people creative ideas that translate into so many beautiful details that I get to capture. But when a couple goes beyond trying to make their wedding “pinterest worthy” (or for my sake, “photography portfolio worthy”), and they choose to first cherish their wedding as the day they become one, before God their foundation, & in the presence of the people that have sown into their lives, that’s when I am truly inspired. And that’s what Mac & Emily’s wedding day was. Not to mention full of laughter and celebration! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard during wedding speeches (thanks Luke :P).
Mac & Emily, I’m so excited for what God is going to do in and through you two as a married couple. Congratulations!!
Sarah
